A quiet place to rest between adventures — where the trees are tall, the nights are still, and there's always room for one more campfire.
Nestled along a quiet stretch of rural Winneshiek County, Middle Bear Campground offers a simple, honest place to settle in and listen to the wind move through the pines.
Middle Bear Campground sits on a gentle rise of land just outside Decorah, where the rolling hills of the Driftless Region give way to thick stands of oak and maple. We opened our grounds to travelers who wanted something quieter — a place without the rush of crowded parks or the noise of busy roads.
Our cabins are built for comfort without fuss: clean lines, warm wood, and windows that look out onto trees. The campsites are spread wide enough for privacy, and the fire rings are ready whenever you are.
Whether you're passing through on your way to the Luther College campus, exploring the Upper Iowa River, or simply looking for a weekend where the only schedule is the sunset — you'll find a welcome here.

The Driftless Region is one of the most scenic stretches of land in the Midwest — no glaciers ever touched it, so the hills are steep, the valleys are deep, and the water runs clear. Here's what's close by.
Ancient valleys and bluffs perfect for hiking, kayaking, and discovering waterfalls that never saw an ice age.
A short drive away — the campus hosts concerts, art exhibits, and the famous Wildcat Days that draw visitors from all over.
Home to Iowa's highest waterfall, this park offers some of the most rewarding day hikes in the state.
